Hydrogen Tablets: Human Studies
Effervescent tablets: magnesium-based tablets dropped into water, where they release H₂ to make hydrogen-rich water on the spot. Easy to dose, but the gas is only generated just before drinking.
Human studies on molecular hydrogen given by Tablets. This page collects the 6 studies using this route — 3 randomized trials, 3 pilot/observational studies and 0 reviews. Listed newest first.

2025 · Ogannisyan — Hydrogen-Rich Water Decreases Muscle Damage and Improves Power Endurance in Elite Athletes: A Randomized, Double-Blinded, Placebo-Controlled Trial
Hydrogen-rich water reduces muscle damage and boosts power performance in competitive female athletes.
2019 · LeBaron et al. — Acute Supplementation with Molecular Hydrogen Benefits Submaximal Exercise Indices. Randomized, Double-Blinded, Placebo-Controlled Crossover Pilot Study
In 19 healthy adults, hydrogen-producing tablets taken the day before and the day of a treadmill test to exhaustion did not change maximal or minimal exercise values compared with placebo, but average heart rate and breathing rate during exercise were lower.
2014 · Ostojic et al. — Effectiveness of oral and topical hydrogen for sports-related soft tissue injuries.
In male professional athletes with acute soft tissue injuries, adding oral hydrogen tablets (2 g/day) plus topical hydrogen-rich packs accelerated joint range-of-motion recovery and reduced plasma viscosity compared to standard treatment alone.
2023 · Sumbalová — The Effect of Adjuvant Therapy with Molecular Hydrogen on Endogenous Coenzyme Q10 Levels and Platelet Mitochondrial Bioenergetics in Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
In patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), eight weeks of hydrogen-rich water improved platelet mitochondrial energy production, raised coenzyme Q10 levels in platelets, and reduced oxidative stress markers — while placebo showed no significant changes.
2023 · Singh et al. — Can Hydrogen Water Enhance Oxygen Saturation in Patients with Chronic Lung Disease? A Non-Randomized, Observational Pilot Study
In 10 patients with chronic lung disease and reduced oxygen saturation, 4 weeks of high-concentration hydrogen-rich water was associated with higher oxygen saturation and lower oxidative stress markers compared with baseline, in a small study without a control group.
