Liver

Liver conditions such as fatty liver (NAFLD), in which H₂ is tested against liver and metabolic markers. Around 98 papers touch on this topic, but the robust human evidence is limited: about 4 randomized controlled trials and around 16 pilot and observational studies, supplemented by reviews and a large share of preclinical investigations in animal and cell models.

In humans, the focus was mainly on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and liver-related metabolic markers. The studies mostly examined hydrogen-rich water (HRW), less often other delivery forms; endpoints included liver enzymes, liver fat content, blood lipids and markers of oxidative stress.

Some studies report favorable changes in liver and lipid values, others find no clear effects. Because of small participant numbers and short durations, the evidence remains preliminary and does not permit any statement about a therapeutic benefit in liver disease.
