Cardiovascular

A comparatively large number of papers exist on cardiovascular questions, including around 50 human studies — mostly small controlled or observational studies as well as case reports — supplemented by extensive preclinical research in animal and cell models, for example on heart attack and vascular damage.

In humans, the studies mainly examined inhalation of H₂ gas and hydrogen-rich water, for example in high blood pressure, after cardiovascular events, or in connection with vascular function and blood lipid values. Endpoints included blood pressure, markers of oxidative stress and inflammation as well as parameters of vascular function.

Some studies suggest favorable changes in risk markers, but the results are inconsistent and rest on small participant numbers and short durations. Evidence for a benefit on hard endpoints (such as heart attack or mortality) is lacking; H₂ is no substitute for guideline-based cardiovascular treatment.
